“The Whale” starring Brendan Fraser received another standing ovation, this time at the Montclair Film Festival in New Jersey on Sunday.
In a video shared by film critic David Gonzalez of Reel Talk, the 53-year-old actor smiles broadly as the audience applauds. Alongside him on stage is “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert, whose wife Evelyn is president of festivals board of trustees.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky, “The Whale” follows a severely obese English teacher (Fraser) trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Sadie Sink). Its set to arrive in theaters Dec. 9.
The film has earned ovations at several film festivals over the last few weeks, making Fraser an early Oscar contender for his performance.
The 10-day Montclair Film Festival kicked off on Oct. 21 and opened with Netflixs “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Montclair, a suburb of New York City, is home to numerous filmmakers, journalists, creatives and others in the media and entertainment industries, including Colbert.
