Helena Bonham Carter defended controversial collaborator Johnny Depp and J.K Rowling in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine.
Bonham Carter, who frequently stars in films alongside Depp, said he was completely vindicated after his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year.
A jury awarded Depp $10 million after finding Heard, 36, defamed Depp, 59, in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic abuse. It awarded Heard $2 million for a counterclaim.
Bonham Carter, 56, said “people will jump on the bandwagon [of #MeToo] because it’s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.”
Bonham Carter also thinks people have gone too far in criticizing J.K. Rowling for her views on transgender individuals. “I think she has been hounded,” she said.
The “Harry Potter” stars denouncing her views as transphobic are “very aware of protecting their own fan base and their generation, she said.
