Director Tim Burton said he is likely done working with Disney, where he began his career as an animator.
The live-action “Dumbo” director made the remarks Saturday at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, France, where he won the Prix Lumière on Friday, Deadline reported.
Burton said Disney is focused on Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar properties. “Its gotten to be very homogenized, very consolidated,” he said.
The directors long relationship with Disney Studios includes films like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Alice and Wonderland.”
“I realized that I was Dumbo, that I was working in this horrible big circus and I needed to escape,” Burton said of filming the reboot. “That movie is quite autobiographical at a certain level.”
Burton praised the Lumière Festival for being “purely about cinema, rather than business,” and suggested “all studio executives should be forced to come here to reinvigorate them.”
