The figures place “Way of the Water” in a tie with “The Batman” for the fourth highest domestic opening of the year, but still well ahead of the original films $77 million debut.
Despite the 13-year wait, Cameron has said he plans to release a third “Avatar” film in 2024, followed by a fourth in 2026.
