Chevy Chase once more took on the role of Clark Griswold for a special Christmas lighting ceremony at an Illinois restaurant that recalled the 1989 film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
The comedian recreated the iconic scene at Raising Cane’s restaurant in Chicago suburb Morton Grove Tuesday night. Hundreds of people gathered for the event, which was filmed for a holiday commercial.
A video shared by the restaurant chain shows Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves introducing Chase to the crowd, as he holds a pair of extension cords.
“Drumroll, please,” Chase says as he plugs in the cords. Of course it doesnt work, but like the film it lights up on the second try. Unlike National Lampoons Christmas, the display did not cause a power outage or start a fire.
The location is decked out with thousands of lights, plus Santa with his sleigh and reindeer, appearing nearly as busy as the Griswold home in the classic film. “Its a beaut, Todd, it really is,” Chase says.
The pair drove away in a replica of the Griswold familys iconic wood-paneled station wagon, with a Christmas tree strapped on top.
