Actor Chris Hemsworth is taking a break from acting after learning on the Disney+ documentary series “Limitless” he is at heightened risk for developing Alzheimers disease.
Hemsworth, 39, confirmed the news to Vanity Fair, saying he will be taking “preventative steps” to stave off the disease, which is a form of dementia that affects memory and communication.
While filming “Limitless,” Hemsworth underwent a variety of tests to explore ways to live a longer, healthier life. He discovered he has two copies of the ApoE4 gene.
According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, only about 2–3% of people carry two copies of the ApoE4 gene, which is the strongest risk factor gene for Alzheimers.
Hemsworth said the news really triggered something in me to want to take some time off.” He will appear in “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa,” which wrapped filming this month.
