She was the queen of romantic comedies in the late 80s and 90s, and now Meg Ryan is finally returning to her rom-com roots!
The star of rom-coms such as When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, and Sleepless in Seatle will star in a new movie alongside David Duchovny called Watch What Happens Later.
According to People, Ryan not only stars in the movie, but she also co-wrote and directed the romantic comedy, which will debut in theaters on October 13.
Entertainment Weekly reports the new movie features Ryan in the role of Willa, who ends up snowed in at a regional airport with ex-lover Bill (David Duchovny), whom she hasn’t seen in years.
“My character, Willa, is a magical thinker and David’s character, Bill, is a catastrophic thinker,” Ryan shared with Entertainment Weekly. “These rom-coms really work when the two characters are somehow opposites and yet have a rhythm of intellect and humor and dialogue and banter that sort of indicates their compatibility. So, it’s just been really fun to see David embrace this guy who I don’t think is anything really like David. Whereas the Willa thing I can really relate to. To see him dive into every single scene in the fullest way, he’s funny, and he’s smart, and he’s dear, and irresistible.”
