The revival of hit sitcom “Frasier” wont include David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier Cranes brother, Niles, star Kelsey Grammer revealed to People magazine.
The reboot, set to be released on Paramount Plus, has been in development for “six or seven years,” Grammer said, and was initially supposed to bring back original cast.
“David basically decided he wasnt really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” Grammer said. John Mahoney, who played Frasiers father Martin Crane, died in 2018.
“In a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do anyway, which was a Frasier third act,” Grammer said.
“Its an entirely new life for him,” Grammer said. “But the new world for Frasier is one of new friendships — and some new twists and turns he didnt know were still in there.”
